The 2008 All Star Game
I’ll admit it, I didn’t watch the whole thing. It was already in the 13th inning and I just said forget it. The AL had so many opportunities to win that I couldn’t stand it. After all, the American League defeated the National League 4-3 in a 5 hour, 15 inning battle that might make you say “just get it over with!” Eventually, Justin Morneau scored the winning run in an epic slide, so my prediction wasn’t totally off. I would like to recognize Aaron Cook for pitching 3 shutout innings including pitching out of a bases loaded jam with no outs. (And who says Clint Hurdle is Rockies biased). Also, I would like to recognize Dan Uggla for the ultimate worst fielding ever. He made three errors (an all star record) and it seemed like anything you hit to him was bobbled. I kind of thought it was a joke, and then I remembered that it was one in the morning. Finally, I would like to recognize that the American League could not take advantage of two Uggla errors and could not close the game. It was also kind of weird because EVERYONE stole a base it seemed like. There were 7 stolen bases total (6 American League stolen bases, another record). This is my last report for at least four weeks, so I want to give it a good grade, and it was good entertainment, so here’s to 12 straight winless years for the National League.
